Understanding Your IHIP

The Individualized Home Instruction Plan (IHIP) outlines how you plan to provide instruction for your child during the school year. It includes the required subjects, the curriculum materials or plan of instruction you will use, your quarterly report dates, and the names of the people providing instruction.

Your IHIP provides your school district with an overview of your homeschool plan for the year. It should include the following information:

Who Will Provide Instruction

The required subjects for your child's grade level and a brief description of what you plan to cover.

The curriculum materials, textbooks, online programs, or other resources you plan to use—or a plan of instruction for each required subject.

The dates you plan to submit your quarterly reports. These should divide the school year into reasonably even reporting periods.

The names of the individuals who will provide instruction during the school year.

Submit Your IHIP

District Review

If Changes Are Needed

After receiving the IHIP form from your district, you have four weeks to submit your completed IHIP, or until August 15, whichever is later.

The district has 10 business days to review your IHIP and let you know whether it is in compliance.

If the district identifies something that needs to be corrected or added, it must notify you in writing. You then have 15 days to submit a revised IHIP.
