Quarterly Report Basics

New York State homeschooling families submit quarterly reports to their school district throughout the school year. The reports provide a brief record of the instruction completed during each reporting period and your child's progress in the subjects listed on the IHIP.

Your quarterly report dates are established in your IHIP, so you'll know at the beginning of the year when each report is due.

What to Include

What To Include in Your Quarterly Report

Each quarterly report should include four basic pieces of information:

Instructional Hours

Material Covered

Progress Evaluation

If Less Than 80% Was Completed

Include the total number of hours of instruction completed during the quarter.

Briefly describe the material covered in each subject listed on your child's IHIP during the quarter.

Include either a grade or a brief written narrative evaluating your child's progress in each subject.

If less than 80% of the material planned for the quarter was covered in a subject, include a brief written explanation.

Keep a simple record of instructional hours throughout the quarter so you don't have to calculate everything at the last minute.

Jot down topics, lessons, books, projects, or other material covered in each subject as you go.

Refer to the quarterly report dates listed in your IHIP and keep them somewhere easy to see.
